One good early indicator for early spring is when Stock Doves start to call. They look a bit like a large feral pigeon and don’t have the white neck of a Wood Pigeon.

They are found across the UK is quite variable numbers typically around arable land and they next in holes – tree’s, walls etc etc.

Their call is very distinctive – just listen for a short, resonating Ooo-uu-ooh call from the trees – there are usually some in the large trees on the Cliff in the village – and the fact they are starting to call shows spring is on it’s way!!
